Laptop Computer vs Desktop Computer

The computer is one of the greatest inventions in the world. Nowadays, there are more and more people who have their own computers. However, some people easily get confused when deciding to buy a laptop or a desktop. It is obvious that both of them can do well at what they are needed for such as working, studying, researching or entertaining, etc. Both consist of the basic parts like main board, ram, VGA card, hard disk, etc. Yet despite these similarities, there are quite a few differences between these two kinds of computer. A laptop offers some advantages that a desktop doesn’t. The first one is the portability. The laptop is light and portable enough to be brought anywhere. In addition, it only needs a small space to put it on. These things are very necessary for the businessmen because their jobs require them to move continuously. It is also vital for the students who want to surf the internet in the coffee shop or the library for researching or entertaining. The most important thing is the laptop uses a battery to work, so it can work for about 3 hours without plugging into the outlet. The laptop is absolutely a good solution if the people want to use the computer while going camping. Yet, the desktop is so big and heavy that the people can’t carry it with them. It is stable and good for the job, which doesn’t need to move. Unfortunately, the desktop can’t work until it is plugged into the outlet. Another advantage of the laptop is the quietness and the coolness. It uses a device called solid-state drive (SSD) to contain data. Therefore, it doesn’t make noise while working. Besides that, it runs quite cool due to the silent cooling fan and doesn’t waste much electricity. In contrast, the desktop makes loud noise when running due to its regular hard drive and fans. Moreover, it runs very hot – almost hot enough to fry an egg. Some people try to add extra cooling fans for their desktop. Unfortunately, this even makes their desktop noisier. The next benefit of the laptop is the convenience. In the laptop, a mouse is replaced with a touchpad, which is a great solution for the portability. The touchpad certainly cannot be dropped. Moreover, the laptop also has a lot of built-in devices such as speakers, microphone, webcam, etc. You can carry all of them easily while moving because all of them are built in. On the other hand, the owner of a desktop has to buy them and plug them into it through a USB port. It is hard to carry all of them when moving to another place. Nevertheless, the laptop also has some disadvantages. In other words, a desktop has some benefits that a laptop doesn’t. For one thing, a desktop is usually cheaper than a laptop, sometimes just half the price of the laptop. Because of the conveniences of the laptop, the customers are willing to pay extra money for them. The second advantage of the desktop is the compatibility to work. It is believed that the desktop can work better that the laptop. It is really powerful; most tasks can be accomplished in a short time. Its monitor is great to design images, watch DVDs or play games with a large screen, high resolution, and short delay time. Furthermore, a professional video editor often chooses a desktop as a tool for his or her work because of its strength. On the contrary, the laptop is not good to watch DVDs or play games because of its small screen. Gazing at the laptop’s screen for long periods may harm the viewer’s eyes. In addition, many people complain that it is difficult to type with the small keyboard of the laptop. In fact, this problem appears with the laptops whose monitors are smaller than 13†. The users need to practice typing on these small keyboards before working with these laptops. The third benefit of desktop computers is the ability to upgrade. Upgrading a desktop is very simple; anyone can learn to do it by himself, but for the laptop, it is much harder. The desktop can be added and modified as the user pleases. However, the laptop’s users need an expert to help them upgrade it. For that reason, the desktop’s speed can be unlimited, but the laptop’s can’t. The final advantage is the durability. The desktop is very durable; it can work for more than 10 years if it is kept in a good environment. Unfortunately, the laptop is fragile when being dropped. When it is broken, people will probably buy a new one. Based on the differences of these computers, the users can determine which one is better for them depending on their purposes. If they are the white-collar workers or the students who need the computers for their work or study, a small convenient laptop is the best choice for them. On the other hand, if they need the computers for their families or their works relating to graphic design, video editing, or playing hard-core games, a powerful desktop is likely a great choice.

Healthcare Administrators must have up-to-date computer skills in order to be an effective employee to any business operation. Health Administrators must be familiar with the particular scheduling program and databases used by the company, including spreadsheets, word processors, e-mail, and any other programs typically used in the industry. Additionally, a Health Administrator must be efficient at data entry because at any point in time, an administrator may be called upon to step in and complete the day-to-day operations of another worker in addition to the responsibilities that are the normal activities of an Health Administrator.It is essential that prior to obtaining your degree in Health Administration, I should make sure it is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Courses that are required will cover the tech side, such as database security, data analysis, coding and classification systems, and infor mation management. Coursework will also cover the medical side, such as medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.Any additional training in science or computer science would boost my competitive edge. Continuing education will also be important, as technology is always changing, and medicine will be on the forefront of that, utilizing the latest and most efficient systems. Beginning a career in healthcare administration must possess an array of professional and management skills in addition to a strong fundamental understanding of the field of healthcare. Proficient computer skills are a prime example of an essential management tool for healthcare administrators.My objective is to research which computer skills are the most important to senior healthcare executives and recent healthcare administration graduates and examine the level of agreement between the two groups. Based on a survey of interviews from senior heath care executives, I have concluded from senior healthcare exec utives from the Boca Raton Community Hospital and graduated healthcare administration students that have BA's in Health Administration who hold an entry level position at the Boca Raton Community Hospital, have identified a comprehensive and pragmatic array of computer kills that are necessary to be a HA. They have categorized these skills into four groups. According to their importance, for making recent health administration graduates valuable in the healthcare workplace. Traditional parametric hypothesis tests are used to assess congruency between responses of senior executives and of recent healthcare administration graduates. For each skill, responses of the two groups are averaged to create an overall ranking of the computer skills. Not surprisingly, both groups agreed on the importance of computer skills for recent healthcare administration graduates.In particular, computer skills such as word processing, graphics and presentation, using operating systems, creating and editin g databases, spreadsheet analysis, using imported data, e-mail, using electronic bulletin boards, and downloading information were among the highest ranked computer skills necessary for recent graduates to be considered for employment. Because a Health Administrator deals with the day-to-day operations of the healthcare business. Record keeping skills including the knowledge of keeping records for payroll purposes, taking inventory, and supervising other employees are absolutely necessary to hold the position as a HA.In addition, supervisory skills, such as team leadership, effective problem solving skills, conflict management, and time management are equally essential to the position of a HA. A Healthcare Administrator must use these skills to ensure that the business mission is completed on a daily basis. This, of course, involves the ability to effectively communicate with the company's employees, business clients, and other various office visitors that they may come in contact w ithin the business. Without a thorough education in computer technology, it would not be possible to hold a position as a Healthcare Administrator.

The information that I have learned about diversity in the United States has helped me better understand our society and relate to different people. I think that diversity is a beautiful thing that we should embrace instead of looking at negatively. The United States has come a long way in terms of discrimination and prejudice against different people from different cultures, backgrounds and races. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of what some people went through in order to gain the respect of people that looked down on them because they were of a different descent. Looking back at the way African Americans were treated in the 1950s and 1960s truly makes me cringe. To me it’s unfathomable that people can have so much hate towards a group of people because of the color of their skin. Martin Luther King said it best in his â€Å"I have a dream† speech when he stated that he ‘dreams of a day where his four little children will be judged not by th e color of their skin, but by the content of their character’. I think that from then, we have come a long way because as a whole, society is a bit more open to diversity; but we still have a long way to go. Learning about diversity has made me embrace my own culture much more. I am an American of full Dominican Descent, and although I have always been proud to be a Hispanic living in America, diversity has taught me that it really is a beautiful thing. The way some people discriminate against minorities makes you almost a bit ashamed to be from another country, but I don’t see it that way. I love being Dominican and I will always be proud of where I am from. I think that by the year 2050 the United States is going to be much more diverse than it is now. The minority population is going to be much more diverse, resulting in larger amounts of interracial marriages. The Caucasians will no longer be the ‘majority’. Right now, in 2013 we are so diverse and you see people from all over the world in the United States, and I feel th at as time goes by that is just going to increase dramatically. I think that the racial issues that we face today will always be there,  because there will always be people that are closed minded and living in the past. I do however, think that given how diverse the United States is becoming, society will learn to be more accepting of diversity and different cultures and interracial marriages. Today, you don’t see the same concern for race and skin color that we saw in the 1950s and 1960s; people today are more accepting of diversity. The fact that we have the first African American president today is a major turning point in our nation, one that has changed a lot of people attitudes towards African Americans and different minority groups. According to Joel Kotkin (2010), ‘racial and ethnic identification will be as important as it is now. Now more than ever, ethnicity is intertwined with identity and shapes the way people grow, what they believe and their perspectives on a variety of topics’. (What will American look like; Liane Membis, 7/2/2010). The biggest challenge that the United States faces because of diversity is amongst the people themselves. Americans need to get rid o f the hyphen and accept and understand that we are all Americans and one nation. The pledge of allegiance states that we are ‘one nation under god, with liberty and justice for all’, it’s ironic how so many people forget that we are in fact ONE nation and instead of pointing fingers because of where someone is from or the color of their skin, we should come together and embrace the diversity in which we live in. The challenges that this nation faces in regards to diversity our challenges that we have created ourselves. In a perfect world, we would all live in harmony there would be no racism, discrimination or hate. We would all get along and embrace the fact that we come from all over the world to America and live here together. Diversity is such a positive thing, and I wish that more people viewed it this way. In today’s society, where we are the epitome of diversity, a lot of people view it as a good thing. Diversity is beneficial because it gives a lot of people the opportunity to experience different things with different people. S ome people don’t really pay attention to the things that go on outside of their comfort zone, or simply just choose not to participate in things that will help them better understand different cultures and people. â€Å"Studies show that the lack of cohesion between races, sexes and cultures is due to mistrust, stereotyping, and more within culture conversation and language problems† ( Sarah T., Missouri City Tx; The importance & Benefits of  diversity). I think this statement is absolutely true, and is a major factor in the divide that people create in the United States when it comes to diversity. We have a long way to go before we are a diverse society that values the differences in the people that make up our nation. Another benefit of diversity in America is that it prepares our children for the real world. One of the things I love the most about how diverse our nation is and growing up here you see it the most. Our schools are filled with children from all over the world and country, and our children are taught at an early age to not see the color of their friend’s skin, but who they are and how well they get along. I think that by raising consciousness we can foster a climate of acceptance and cultural plurism in the United States. If we as a whole were able to just be a little more open minded we would be able to knock down the walls that keep us from getting to know people from different cultures and accept them how th ey are. Given, that the United states has gone through situations like 9/11 with the terrorist attacks that made people a little more guarded against middle eastern people and that brought on a lot of discrimination against the Muslim Americans living here. I don’t think it’s fair to put them all in that category, because not everyone is the same. There are good and bad people from every part of the world, and if we were a little more conscience of this we would be able to accept diversity that much more. Diversity isn’t just where you are from or your religious beliefs, it’s much more than that; physical appearances, where you grew up, but all of that is irrelevant if we accept each other and come together as a whole. The media contributes to the perpetuation of stereotypes and prejudice in the way that they show people from certain backgrounds in television, newspapers and the way that they talk about people on the radio as well. I think that the way certain racial groups or cultures are portrayed in the media, has a significant impact on the way viewers and listeners see them. For example, the attacks with 9/11 were something that moved our nation and impacted the United States significantly, but the way the media went after the terrorists also made the way viewers and Americans viewed Muslims living in America negative. People began to hate Muslim Americans and discriminate against them, as if the attacks were their fault. The media helps foster appreciation for diversity, for how diverse it is itself. You see people on television from different  backgrounds, and different cultures working together. Whether it is on television shows, newspapers or in music; the media promotes diversity by showing just how diverse it is itself. For example, the Ellen DeGeneres show is very diverse. The fact that she is a gay woman is a fact that some people look down on to begin with, but she brings people from all over the world and a very diverse bunch of celebrities on her show without discrimination against anyone. I think this is the perfect example of how the media helps foster appreciation for diversity, because it applauds the fact that there is such diversity and it is brought together in a positive way. I think that if individuals in the United States were to be a little more open minded than we wouldn’t have any divides at all, and we could reduce prejudice and increase the appreciation for diversity in our nation. The problem is that a lot of people do not realize just how beautiful diversity is. They look at it as something negative and that is the mindset that we need to work on changing in order to reduce prejudice. We live in a country that welcome differences and gives people the choice and right to be themselves, and to be proud of where they come from. Personally, I am a very open person to other people and diversity and I embrace it because I feel that we are all different and that is what makes this country beautiful. I have a very diverse group of friends, and I have never judged people based on the color of their skin, but who they are as a person and I try to carry that way of thinking every day of my life. I have a son, and I would never want people to discriminate against him for being Dominican, or ‘brown’, and so I will instill in him the same values my mother and father instilled in me as a child, that I carry with me today. I mean think about it, if we all walked around being told what to do, what to think, and to act the same then we would complain about that.

However, this was not something that was being anticipated by the lenders, as bankers thought they held new products that guaranteed never-ending great profits. However, the best performance for the sub-prime market was between 2001 and 2006, when sales essentially boomed. Analysts state that approximately one-third of mortgages issued to subprime borrowers were adjusted rate mortgages. In the early 2000s, interest was at its lowest rate and mortgage lenders started to relax their lending standards, which made many poor credit families creditworthy to qualify for a mortgage. As more people started to buy property, it increased demand in the housing market and caused house prices to rise (Mortgageguideu k 2009). In addition, subprime lending rocketed to trillions of dollars; bankers and lenders bundled up the subprime mortgages with the prime mortgages, â€Å"good and bad apples†, and sold them in a single package to hedge funds and investment banks who initially thought it as a great way to generate high return investments (Terner 2008). These are called â€Å"Collateralised Debt Obligations† (CDOs). Lehman Brothers was the biggest player on this subprime market, making millions of dollars every month; they even offered â€Å"Ninja† (no income, no job or asset) mortgages, basically saying if you can breathe, we will give you a loan (reference). This is what caused the problem; subprime mortgages were mostly given to new homeowners who did not understand the risks behind the scenes (Financial Times 2009). When the demand in the housing reached its peak in the US, the interest rate started to rise from 1% to 5.35%, which caused the housing market to slowdown. As a result, this caused real concern for homeowners who could barely afford their mortgage payments when interest rates were low. Homeowners started to default on their mortgages, sparking trouble for all of us and the entire financial system (Mortgages 2010). When borrowers could no longer afford to pay their loans, the value of these investments started to fall, causing huge losses for banks across the world and many businesses that wholly depended on free fall credit have either collapsed, been taken over by competitors or been nationalised (Parliament 2010). For example, Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Washington Mutual, Northern Rock, Freddie Mac, AIG, Fanny Mae, Bradford and Bingley, RBS Bank of Scotland Group, Wachovia, Halifax Bank of Scotland and many more have been hit hard by the credit crisis. For example, HSBC’s subsidiary Housing Finance Corporation (HFC) was the highest provider of high risk subprime borrowers in the US and was hit hardest by the credit crunch. South African Breweries Essay SAB has the leading position to produce and distribute both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. it’s been registered in 1895 in London and since then with momentous profit and prevailing market position it has develop its business in home sectors as well. Again SABMiller is also facing difficulties to keep up in the competition with the competitors in US market. In addition to this in America the Beer market is in downward trend as the Americans are continuously and increasingly turning to wine than beer. This has adverse impact on SABMiller’s profit margin. Elements of Design in the Green Mile Essay The Green Mile is an exceptional film that was created in the year 1999. This film was nominated for four academy awards: Best Supporting Actor, Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Adapted Screenplay. This movie teaches us how different the times were back in the 1900s compared to the way it is now. The movie is set in 1935 which was during the times of the Great Depression. It also illustrates death row and how execution is still a problem to where it is not just and fair. There are several well-known actors that cast in this film. Each actor plays a very unique role and elements of design have a role where it puts everything about this movie into perspective. The cinematographer that helped to create this film had a vital role in putting all of his screen shots together to generate the perfect lighting, images that are seen by the camera, and images that the audience sees upon completion of the film (Goodykontz Jacobs, 2011). The director, producer, screenwriter, and composer all played important roles in putting this film together to show its exceptional potential at being nominated for four academy awards. The elements of design in the Green Mile are a form of art which cannot be duplicated in a way that they have come together to create this finished product. There is a scene in this film called â€Å"Miracle Worker†. In this particular clip, illustrates how the actors are placed into the scene and positioned on the set. You will see how well their costumes and makeup are done which is part of what makes up the mise en scene. The mise en scene is all of the elements in a film that the audience sees such as the setting, make up and costumes, as well as the movement and placement of the actors. The director, Frank Darabont, is responsible for shooting many different versions on a scene (Goodykontz Jacobs, 2011). The director will then create the final film based upon the best of those elements. Some directors will allow improvisation which is when actors come up with their own lines that they feel will fit into a particular scene. The production designer, who is also sometimes called the art director, is responsible for maintaining the sets, props and the costumes so that they are in sync with the story and the character’s role (Goodykontz Jacobs, 2011). Production designers are head of the department on film crews and they are responsible for the art department. Basically, they may be asked to look at scripts to decide how much time the art department needs to spend on films. They also calculate the budgets to figure out how much money will be spent as well. Furthermore, they will provide their design sketches expressing detailing mood, lighting, composition and color to the art directors who oversees the production (Anonymous, 2012). In this scene, the â€Å"Miracle Worker†, the lighting is low because it is night time, but there are lights on inside of the house in the bedroom where the warden wife is lying in bed. The lighting is very dim which evokes a depressing and gloomy mood. It draws the audience into the scene to where they can feel the same pain and sorrow that the actors feel. John Coffey places his lips over the warden’s wife’s lips to retrieve the sickness of the cancer from her body. The chandelier begins to brighten and the sound of the music increases as the scene becomes more intense. There is a sign of bright lighting coming from the woman’s mouth illustrating the cancer leaving her body and going into Coffey’s body as his mouth brightens as well. That lighting is symbolic for the cancer that Coffey took away from her. Then he closes his mouth and the light goes away. However, there is still a bright light on the woman’s face for a couple of seconds as she lies there with her eyes closed, but now her face looks healthy and so young. The lighting in this scene affects the overall story of what the director is trying to tell the audience because it tells you without words what the characters in the film are feeling. It tells you that they are saddened when the light is dim and then in awe and disbelief as it brightens. The warden was in tears and was in disbelief from what he had just scene. So were the rest of the guards. Although, they were in disbelief, they also displayed a sign of relief in that the sickness has left the woman’s body. The film setting was the summer of 1935 when Hanks was a corrections officer in charge of death row inmates at Cold Mountain Penitentiary during the Great Depression days. This is during the time where unemployment was very high. It only got worse in time before it got better. Even taxes had increased which made it that much more difficult for people to survive. During this period of time racism still existed in this culture. John Coffey was beaten, convicted and sentenced for execution all because he was a black man suspected of raping and killing two little white girls with no valid proof. Costuming can tell us almost everything we need to know about a character. The costuming of the woman showed a great deal of sickness within her face. The makeup on her looked so believable that it almost looked like she was a rotting corpse. Then the costuming took a turn as she was healed from the sickness. She became beautiful and peaceful. Elements play a significant role in affecting the film’s plot. For example, Coffey was dirty and sweaty because it was hot. So this illustrated that he was not clean and did not have any clean clothes. He did not come from a place where he had nice attire. Now if he was clean and had on fresh clothes, the scene would not be as emotional. Nobody really expected Coffey and the way he looked to have such supernatural powers except for Hanks because he had already experienced it for himself. Hairstyle and makeup can help tell the story by showing how the character may feel at that point and time in a scene. It can also set the tone of the scene and the audience can feel exactly what the characters are feeling based on how they look. As the warden puts his hand over his mouth, and the screen zooms in on his face, you can see the stress and pain in his eyes when they start to tear up. The three guards are well dressed in uniform. They have ties and hats. They all look very sharp like they’re about to conduct a ceremony. They are well groomed with no facial hair just like military service members in uniform. The guard’s hairstyle and make up tell the audience that they care about their appearance and how they carry themselves as correction officers. They guards display a sense of caution because Coffey is a convicted criminal, but at the same time they display hope as Coffey talks to the warden’s wife and begin to use his supernatural power. In my personal opinion, I think that the mise en scene was very well put in this movie. The use of color which made the room dim definitely heightened the suspense of the film especially during the particular scene where the light goes from dim to bright and then dim again. The warden and the guards were in well placed positions while Coffey sat on the bed and performed his supernatural miracle to cure the warden’s wife from her sickness. The mise en scene was done very well by illustrating that the woman was sick and then healed by a miracle performed by a black man who was wrongfully convicted and sent to death row while he awaited death by electric chair. All of the elements flowed in a harmonious way because the music went well with the lighting when it was dark, and then became bright when Coffey used his super natural powers to heal the sickened woman. The audience is easily drawn into the film because of the cinematography that takes place in the movie. The actors, lighting, music and setting go hand in hand together. Therefore, it is not discordant at all. The design elements are definitely in sync with Frank Darabont’s vision. From the beginning of the scene, the elements in the film were symbolic to his vision. He wanted the audience to feel every bit of emotion that the characters were feeling. The intensity as Coffey spoke to the warden’s wife grew as he introduced himself to the time he ridded her from the illness. Not only did it make the warden cry and the guards emotional, but I’m sure that the audiences who watched this movie were just as emotional as everyone in the film. So Darabont did a great job by piecing everything together to get the right vision for the scene. The Green Mile had great chemistry as everyone played key roles in making this film. The film could not have been accomplished without the help of everyone coming together and doing their part, from the directors to the actors. The elements of the mise en scene were symbolic throughout the movie so that it really touched the audiences. It placed the viewers in the film as if they were part of the script. The director and the cinematography of the film gave it the extra edge that was needed aside from the actors. Phosphorus Binders for Hyperphosphatemia Treatment In the population of 385 individuals that have developed end stage renal disease in the United States, about 250,000 individuals have a condition called hyperphosphatemia (Fink Vincent, 2011, p. 194). This condition is defined by â€Å"a serum phosphate level above 4.5 mg/dL; it may be clinically significant at levels over 5 mg/dL† (Fink Vincent, 2011, p.195). People with kidney disease are not able to filter out phosphorus anymore, therefore resulting in excess amounts of it (Malberti, 2013). Phosphorus in small quantities are good for the body; however, if the level of phosphorus exceeds a certain amount, it can be dangerous because it can deplete calcium, which is essential to the body (Fink Vincent, 2011). An excess results in a gland in the neck to release a hormone which releases calcium out of the bones. Hence, the bones turn weak and brittle, which can eventually lead to bone diseases (National Kidney Foundation, Inc., 2013). Kidney failure leads to increases in ser um levels of phosphorus. In the absence of end-stage renal disease, hyperphosphatamia is treated with â€Å"phosphate excretion using saline infusion (volume diuresis) and diuretic administration† (Fink Vincent, 2011). Drugs used to treat this are oral phosphate binders, since they decrease the absorption of phosphate (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). In the paper, the different types of phosphorus binders that are used to treat patients with hyperphosphatemia caused by End Stage Renal Disease and how does their chemical composition affect their effectiveness as drug will be explored. A wide range of phosphate binders is currently available for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in CKD patients. These agents are generally divided into two main classes: calcium-based binders (calcium carbonate and acetate) and calcium-free binders (aluminum hydroxide, lanthanum carbonate, magnesium carbonate) (Malberti 2013). Since current phosphate binders are similar in the effectiveness of lowering serum phosphorus levels, the main considerations are the adverse reactions, gastrointestinal tolerability, absorbability, and cost-effectiveness (Malberti, 2013). Aluminum hydroxide is a potent phosphate binder, but â€Å"concern about skeletal, hematological and neurological toxicity led to a favored use of calcium salts (carbonate and acetate) in the 1990s† C. The KDIGO recommend avoiding long term use of aluminum hydroxide especially in patients with chronic kidney disease stages three to five (Malberti, 2013). Calcium acetate and calcium carbonate are often considered curre nt standard therapy, since they very effectively lower serum phosphorus levels. Thus, these two calcium-containing binders can be considered comparable for efficacy in control of hyperphosphatemia, effects on mineral metabolism restrictions and tolerability (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Sevelamer carbonate has shown comparable efficacy and safety to sevelamer hydrochloride in dialysis patients and is indicated to lower serum phosphorus also in hyperphosphatemic chronic kidney diseases stage 3–5 patients not on dialysis (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Dose titration of sevelamer can help patients with either chronic kidney disease stages 3–5 reach a high rate of phosphate control (Arroyo et al., 2014). Lanthanum carbonate is a non-calcium-based phosphate binder supplied as a chewable tablet of three dosage strengths (500, 750 and 1,000 mg of elemental lanthanum) that has been shown to be effective in reducing phosphorus in short-term clinical trials (Malberti, 2013). Calcium and aluminum salts are commonly used. Nevertheless, calcium salts can lead to hypercalcemia and metastatic calcification because of high calcium-phosphorus (Ca Ãâ€" PO4) and aluminum salts are very toxic (Malberti, 2013). Chronic management of hyperphosphatamia included treatments with calcium-free phosphate binders like sevelamer hydrochloride [Renagel] which may reduce long-term mortality by preventing the cardiovascular complications that associated with a high Ca Ãâ€" PO4 product (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). In 2003, the National Kidney Foundation released rules and guidelines about how to manage hyperphosphatemia and bone-related disorders in patients with renal impairment (NIH., 2012). The Kidney Disease Quality Outcome Initiative (NKF-K/DQOIâ„ ¢) states that patients who are on dialysis should have serum phosphorus levels between 3.5 to 5.5 mg/dL (1.13 to 1.78 mmol/L) (National Kidney Foundation, Inc., 2012). Treatment options include â€Å"reduction of di etary phosphorus, phosphate binding therapy, and removal of phosphorus by dialysis† (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) is a phosphorus binder with advantages in terms of cost, safety and tolerance and it has a similar efficacy to other drugs. This source assess the effects of replacing aluminum hydroxide [Al(OH3)] with MgCO3to help treat patients with hyperphosphatemia (Malberti, 2013). MgCO3 is another type of phosphorus binder but is not as commonly used as calcium acetate or sevelamer hydrochloride (Malberti, 2013). Twenty- one patients with â€Å"phosphorus 3) as the only binder. Then there was a conversion to MgCO3 â€Å" (Arroyo et al, 2014). Hyperphosphatemia decreased from 4.52 ±0.99 to 4.02 ±1.07mg/ dl (P=.027),. In patients who were previously taking MgCO3allowed good control of serum phosphorus in hemodialysis patients who were previously well controlled with Al(OH3), MgCO3 â€Å"permitted good control of serum phosphorus levels even though there was a slight increase in serum magnesium†, but that had short-term clinical significance (Arroyo et al, 2014). Aluminum hydroxide is a powerful binder and was historically used to treat patients with hyperphosphatemia, but because of its high toxicity levels (Floege et al. 2014). Patients were selected from a hemodialysis unit that had adequate control of serum phosphorus levels and were on Al(OH)3 binder monotherapy and required continuation (Arroyo et al, 2014). A study was conducted that tested the efficiency of a new iron-based phosphate binder. PA21 (sucroferric oxyhydroxide), a â€Å"novel calcium-free polynuclear iron(III)-oxyhydroxide phosphate binder, was compared with that of sevelamer carbonate in randomized, controlled phase III study† (Floege et al. 2014). Seven hundred and seven hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients with hyperphosphatemia received PA21 1.0–3.0à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ °g per day and 348 received sevelamer 4.8–14.4à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ °g per day for an 8-weeks, followed by 4 weeks without dose change, and then 12 weeks maintenance (Floege et al. 2014). Efficacy was maintained to week 24. â€Å"Mild, transient diarrhea, discolored feces, and hyperphosphatemia were more frequent with PA21; nausea and constipation were more frequent with sevelamer† and he PA21 maintenance dose was superior to the low dose in maintaining serum phosphorus control (Floege et al. 2014). Thus, PA21 was effective in lowering serum phosphorus in dialysis patients, with similar efficacy to sevelamer carbonate, a lower pill burden, and better adherence (Floege et al. 2014). PA21 (sucroferric oxyhydroxide) is a â€Å"new calcium-free polynuclear iron(III)-oxyhydroxide phosphate binder with a high phosphate binding capacity over a wide pH range† (Pennick et al 2012).12 It is formulated as flavored, chewable tablets that disintegrate easily in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, bind phosphate across the whole physiologically relevant pH range, each contain 500à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ °mg of iron, and may be taken without water (Floege et al. 2014). Phosphorus binders decrease the absorption of phosphorus in the gastrointestinal tract (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). They are â€Å"simple molecular entities but can also be polymeric structures that bind with phosphorus in the body and form an insoluble compound† (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Some binders work as a sponge and soak up the phosphorus in foods while others bind to the phosphate and are then excreted (NIH., 2012). Calcium-containing salts are used to bind with phosphorus and to increase calcium levels. The most commonly used calcium containing salt is calcium acetate (PhosLo) (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Sevelamer (Renagel, Renvela) is a non-calcium, non-aluminum, non-magnesium, non-absorbable hydrogel that binds phosphorus. Sevelamer comes in two salt forms – sevelamer hydrochloride (Renagel) and sevelamer carbonate (Renvela) (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Sevelamer yields the same reduction in serum phosphate levels as calcium ace tate but does not have the same risk of hypercalcemia since it does not contain calcium. Lantanum carbonate (Fosrenol) is another phosphate binder (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). Lantanum has a high affinity for phosphorus and is part of the lanthanide series. It reacts with phosphorus to form the insoluble compound lanthanum phosphate(Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). When calcium acetate and sevelamer hydrochloride were compared for efficiency, 84 patients were randomized to calcium acetate or sevelamer for eight weeks (Arroyo et al., 2014). A similar result was observed between the calcium acetate and sevelamer (sevelamer -2.0 ±2.3mg/dL versus calcium acetate -2.1 ±1.9 mg/dL) (Arroyo et al., 2014). However, Hypercalcemia (serum calcium >11 mg/dL) was observed in 22 percent of patients receiving calcium acetate (Provider Synergies, L.L.C., 2009). These are the various types of phosphorus binders used to treat patients with hyperphosphatemia caused by End Stage Renal Disea se. The chemical composition affects their cost, toxitity, and how they work inside the body. There are new discoveries as discussed about the iron based phosphorus binder. Ch'en is self-destructive; he is controlled by his religion of terrorism and his fascination with death.   He is representative of the dedicated soldier who begins as a "sacrificial priest" (4) and ends as a martyr.   After all, the ideologies of communism and terrorism were practically a religion to those involved in the revolution.    An examination of Ch'en's past gives us an idea of how he formed his beliefs, and fell into a state of isolation.   At an early age, his parents were murdered in the pillage of Kalagan.   In addition, at age twenty-four, his uncle was taken hostage and killed because he couldn't afford the ransom, and with no wife or children he was severed from any attachment to a family. Reflective Response: Analyzing Gender Roles Gender Bias is still very evident in our society and I believe it is also still present in Fairy tales. Despite how far we've come in equality between genders, children's fairy tales still tend to advertise the gender bias and stereotypes set upon men and women. Many of these stories depict their male heroes as powerful, tough, and dominant, and their female counterparts as selflessly dedicated and submissive damsels in distress. Children absorb these messages from a very young age, through their exposure to fairy tales in media such as storybooks, children's films andTV shows. These messages give them the impression that the only way to be happy is to fulfill the traits of the ideal male/female figure. Little girls frequently dream of becoming the beautiful princesses while little boys strive to be the mighty brave knights, warriors and fighters. Many stereotypes appear in Disney movies, for example Cinderella displays apparent gender bias , stereotypes and discrimination. This movie shows the classic storyline; the courageous, fearless prince charming saves the helpless weak princess from doom.Cinderella is characterized as a tender earted girl who passively accepts her fate which is to live with her evil step-mother and step-sisters. Her life doesn't change until prince charming takes an interest in her and swoops in to save her from her miserable life by becoming not only her one true love, but also her sole provider. This is an evident example of Disney portraying women as weak and docile. Cinderella does not stand up for herself but has to wait for a man to do it for her. This stereotypical storyline teaches young children how they must be to be accepted in society; boys must be strong, girls must be weak.This kind of message is engrained into young girl's minds that they have no control over their lives and must wait for a strong male fgure to save them. These tales teach girls to be passive and dependant becaus e any female characters that break these norms are depicted as an evil. If a woman is strong, independent and speaks her mind (stereotypical male traits), she is seen as nothing but obnoxious or a â€Å"bitch†. Not only are girls affected by these gender stereotypes throughout fairy tales but boys are taught to be the leader, to be strong, emotionless and aggressive giving many young oys aggression problems later in life.These stereotypes give men the impression girls are weak and need some sort of saviour in their life leading them to treat women like they are doing them a favor by simply being with them. All these images help to construct a cultural norm of male dominance. Southwestern University (SWU), located 30 miles southwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, has witnessed tremendous growth in its football program. With that growth, fueled by the hiring of legendary coach Bo Pitterno, has come more fame, the need for a bigger stadium, and more complaints about seating, parking, long lines, and concession stand prices.Southwestern Universitys president, Dr. Marty Starr, was not only concerned about the cost of expanding the existing stadium versus building a new stadium, but also about the ancillary activities.
